CHALLENGE
Restorative Practices: An Introduction to a Positive, Research-Based
Alternative to a Punitive Discipline System
USER DIRECTIONS & MODULE WORKSHEET:

1. Before you proceed, print the MODULE WORKSHEET. You will record your responses here as you proceed through every section of the module.

2. When you complete the module, please submit a copy of your answers, the results of the two-part assessment, and the certificate of participation(located at the end of the module) to the appropriate party in your school or district.

Restorative Practices in education was created to keep students in the classroom continuing to learn while recognizing and attending to negative behaviors. When students are removed from the classroom, the negative impacts are perpetuated. Creating a positive learning environment and teaching students how to respectfully express anger in order to promote responsible citizenship are the goals of Restorative Practices.

CHALLENGE SCENARIO
As you are walking to the cafeteria, you hear students yelling, "Fight!" When you walk in, you find students #1 and #2 engaged in a physical dispute, while students #3 and #4 are trying to diffuse the situation.
As you approach all four students...

What should your first reaction be?
What has worked for you in the past?

**Allow 15 minutes to complete this page of the module. Remember to record your responses on the
MODULE WORKSHEET.**

During this training, you will become equipped with ways to help students and possibly adults solve their own problems using Restorative Practices.
